Do I need to register my motorized kayak with the authorities?

In most states, yes, you will need to register any kayak equipped with a trolling motor, or any other type of motor. While pedal or paddle craft are usually exempt from registration, adding a motor requires documentation. Rules and requirements vary by state, so be sure to check your local regulations. You will need to have your manufacturer’s certificate of origin and bill of sale ready when registering.

Is the motor salt water rated?

Yes, the motor is salt water rated however we do recommend cleaning and rinsing off with fresh water after each use.

The typical weight capacity of a BKC motorized kayak is 420-550 pounds. While these are the outer limits, it is wise to restrict your paddler & gear weight to about 75% of that for optimal handling.
