Brooklyn 14.0 Pro Tandem (Propeller) Pedal Kayak (PK14) FAQs

Which propulsion types are compatible with this kayak?

The Brooklyn 14.0 Tandem Pedal  Kayak is compatible with three propulsion systems: the Pro propeller pedal drive (included), the flipper pedal drive, and an electric trolling motor. Each system is designed to mount cleanly to the existing drive or motor interfaces, so you can switch between propeller, flipper, or motorized setups without modifying the hull. This flexibility lets you tailor the kayak for different water conditions and trip styles, from casual pedaling to long-range, motor-assisted fishing days. This kayak comes with two propeller pedal drives, but they can be interchanged with the other Brooklyn Kayak Company options.

Can this be used as a solo kayak?

Yes, this tandem kayak is very capable as a solo boat and is designed to remain stable and responsive with only one pedaler on board. Its length and hull design help it track straight even when you are paddling or pedaling alone, so you will not notice a dramatic change in performance compared to tandem use. For best handling, sit in the second (rear) seat position when using it solo, and consider placing gear or ballast in the front seating area or in the bow storage to balance the weight. This setup supports comfortable, efficient control on lakes, bays, and rivers, whether you are fishing or just cruising.

Can you lift the pedal drive out while on the water?

You can easily lift and secure the pedal drive system while you are on the water whenever you need a shallow draft or want to switch to paddling. The drive unlocks from its housing and can be tilted or propped up on the deck so that the propeller (or fins if you add the flipper drive) clears the submerged obstacles, shallow flats, or launch ramps. When you are ready to resume pedaling, simply lower the drive back into place and lock it in. This also works well when transporting or beach-launching the kayak.

Can I add a motor later on?

Yes, you can add a motor at a later time, and the kayak is designed so that all three propulsion options - Pro propeller pedal drive, flipper pedal drive, and trolling motor - are interchangeable. You can start with a pedal setup and then upgrade to a motorized configuration by purchasing the compatible trolling motor and hardware separately. This design lets you scale your setup as needs, budget, or style of paddling and fishing evolve, without replacing the entire kayak.

A High-Capacity Tandem Kayak With Twin Propeller Drives

The Brooklyn 14.0 Tandem (Propeller) Pedal Kayak (formerly the BKC PK14) is a 14-foot-long, 35-inch-wide sit-on-top tandem kayak designed for anglers and adventure paddlers / pedalers who want speed, stability, and hands-free propulsion on lakes, bays, and lazy rivers.

With twin instant-reverse propeller pedal drives, a hand-operated rudder, and a massive 750-pound weight capacity, it easily hauls two kayakers plus camping or fishing gear for full-day trips or multi-day expeditions. A large watertight bow hatch, spacious rear cargo area, and three flush-mounted rod holders make it a versatile platform for fishing, touring, and stand-up casting, while four carry handles and self-draining scupper holes simplify transport and keep the deck drier on the water.
