Yes, you can add a motor to nearly all of BKC’s kayaks. This model accepts a trolling motor with a compatible mount, allowing you to cover more ground as you find your favorite fishing hole. Just keep in mind that state law requiring registration for motorized vehicles might apply if you add a trolling motor. Check your local area for rules.

How stable is this kayak?

Brooklyn Kayak Company kayaks are built with stability in mind. The BKC MPK9 is a sit-on-top modular kayak with a 31-inch beam and a wide, stable hull. This results in excellent primary stability, suitable for recreational pedaling or kayak fishing in rivers and lakes.

Can I transport this kayak by myself?

Yes, you can! Because this is a modular kayak, it breaks down into two smaller sections with a total dry weight of 55 pounds (each piece is approximately 27.5 pounds). Most kayakers can transport it solo by carrying sections separately. Both halves generally fit in a SUV or truck bed, eliminating the need for a roof rack.

What is the most comfortable seating option?

This model includes the framed, adjustable stadium-style seat, considered the most comfortable by most kayakers. The back support and elevated paddling position keep you drier and more comfortable over long pedaling or fishing sessions.

Can this kayak be used as a tandem kayak?

Yes! It can. Because it is a modular kayak, you can purchase an additional piece to expand it. A middle piece (MPT13) can be bought separately and inserted between the front and back pieces to create a tandem kayak. You get the best of all worlds: a solo kayak for you and an expansion piece to kayak with a friend.
